Hello, Children’s Ministry at Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church is a place where for children to learn about God and the Bible, develop and grow in their relationship with Jesus, discover the Holy Spirit’s leading in their lives and meet new people and make friends. We do this by:
We would love to have you be a part of our ministry. All you need to do is read about the different groups we have, choose what you’d like to do, fill in the registration form and bring it to your first class. You don’t have to be a member of Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church to attend the programs and there is no registration fee. The programs are on Sundays and Wednesdays and you may start any Sunday or Wednesday the program meets. I hope you can come. I’d love to see you. (Make sure you say hello!)
Sincerely, Maggie Downs (maggie@pppcc.org) Director of Children’s Ministry
Sunday Mornings
9:45am Education Hour is a program for children who are 2 years old (on September 1, 2012) through adults. It is a graded educational endeavor to teach the Bible so that we can learn about God and how to live in relationship with him. Classes are graded according to age. Currently there are four options for children in 5th grade and younger which meet in the Nursery, Sonrise Room and Primary Hall:
8:30 and 11:00am Nursery care is available for children who were 24 months old and younger on September 1, 2012. The nursery is staffed by a trained and screened Nursery Attendant who is assisted by members of our congregation.
Wee Church is for children who were 2 or 3 years old on September 1, 2012. The class operates during the Worship services. It uses a curriculum designed for this age group to teach the children about God’s love for them using the major stories of the Old and New Testaments. The children learn a story, make a craft, have a snack and play. The class meets in the Sonrise Room downstairs.
Children’s Worship is for children who are in 4 year old PreK through 5th grade. It takes place during the worship service. Children begin the worship service with their parents and are dismissed partway through the service to go downstairs to Primary Hall (the room with the Noah’s Ark mural). While they are in Children’s Worship they learn a Bible lesson (this year’s theme is “God’s People Celebrate”), sing sons, present their offerings, pray and do an activity. Parents need to pick up their child from Primary Hall when the worship service is completed.
Wednesday Evenings 6:15 – 7:00pm Children’s Choirs meet to teach the children the foundations of music and to praise God through song. The children sing during worship periodically through the school year. Children are grouped according to grade:
7:00 – 8:00pm Junior Youth Club is for children who are 2years old through Kindergarten. It meets in the Sonrise Room. Children are currently studying who God is and how he interacts in their lives. They learn a Bible story, make a craft, have a snack, and play.
Youth Club is for children who are in 1st – 5th grades. It meets in the Friendship Room. Currently are lessons are based on the curriculum, “Journey with Jesus.” The children are learning about the life of Jesus and the places he visited. There is a Bible lesson and memory verse each week, in addition to games and crafts. Children use their Bibles each week and are strongly encouraged to bring their Bible with them. If a child does not have a Bible, one will be provided for them. Children's Ministry Lessons for the Week In addition to regular Sunday morning and Wednesday evening programs we offer Special Events for children and their families.
Dinner and a Movie Nights. Children and their families come together on a Friday evening (once a month) to have dinner and watch a G-rated film. Children are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag and pillow to lie on while watching the movie. Participants are asked to pay $2.00/person to help cover the cost for dinner. The next Dinner and Movie Night is Friday, January 25, from 6 – 8:30pm. Please contact Maggie Downs at Maggie@pppcc.org for more information.
